'Sharp right captain!'
Originally the plan was to get up to Cumbria for the Three Shires, but work scuppered that idea and so I settled for a low key local event instead.
This was only the second year for the Rombald's Romp, and I was a initially disappointed by the low turn out, but on reflection think that it added to the event's charm. The route was announced only on the morning of our arrival at the White Wells car park on Ilkley Moor. It was 7 miles of allsorts, fell, road, trail and cross-country all blended into one fun no frills race that was worth the £6 entry. I would have swapped the bottle of beer at the finish for a cup of tea, but beer is far easier to dispense and makes your legs ache less.
The good news is that, not for the first time this month, I snook a top 10 finish. The results are here. Well done to Abbey Runners on putting together a characterful race. I hope that it becomes a regular fixture.
